The Devil Is a Part-Timer! (Japanese: はたらく魔王さま!, Hepburn: Hataraku Maō-sama! , lit. "Working Demon King!" or "Demon Lord at Piece of work!") is a Japanese lite novel series written by Satoshi Wagahara, with illustrations by Oniku (written every bit 029). ASCII Media Works has published the series in Japan, while Yen Printing has published the series in North America.
The story is about Satan seeking to conquer the earth of Ente Isla, but when confronted past the Hero Emilia, he is forced to retreat through a gate that transports him to modern solar day Tokyo, Japan. The Demon Lord Satan seeks to conquer the world of Ente Isla by annexing its four continents with the help of his demon generals Alciel, Lucifer, Malacoda, and Adramelech. Later on being confronted by the hero Emilia and her companions, after they had killed Malacoda and Adramelech, Satan and Alciel escape the world of Ente Isla through a gate to modernistic Tokyo, Nihon. However, due to the lack of magic in the mod contemporary world, both Satan and Alciel change into forms representing what they would wait similar if they were human. In order to survive, Satan takes a part-time chore in a fast nutrient restaurant named MgRonald'south, while Alciel serves as his houseman. One solar day, Satan, who at present goes by Sadao Maō, meets a girl who is really Emilia in the form of Emi Yusa. The story then unfolds and explores the personalities of each of the characters and their moral values. - Satan Jacob is the Demon Lord from Ente Isla. Due to the actions of the Hero Emilia Justina and her companions, he was transported to mod 24-hour interval Nihon with Ashiya and changed into human being form. To survive in Nippon, he adopts a Japanese name similar to his original name, Sadao Maou, and works part-time at a MgRonald'south franchise, eventually being promoted to a full-time position as the Assistant Shift Manager. - Emilia is the hero with thigh-length magenta pilus who fended off Satan. She briefly teamed up with Sariel to eliminate both Sadao and Emi later Sariel reminded her of her duties as k inquisitor, but later on seeing Sadao concerned for Chiho and realizing that she values her friendship with Emi and Chiho, she ultimately turns against Sariel by helping Chiho evacuate the area while Satan and Sariel battle ane another. She somewhen develops feelings for Maou, though struggles to accept those feelings due to their past history. She is eventually promoted to the post of Archbishop of the Church in Ente Isla.

Following the failure of his plans, he is arrested past the police. He had been working with the corrupt Church of Ente Isla to kill those who opposed them, such as the members of the Allied Knight Order and anyone affiliated with them. He was Crestia's superior and would oft give her assignments involving the brutal slaughter of the Church's enemies. Following his loss to Satan in Sasakuza, he is placed under guard in a hospital, where he regains consciousness after some time. After he escapes, he attempts to reestablish his contract with Lucifer and proceeds to aid Sariel in his battle confronting Satan by casting a spell to increase his ability. It turns out that he had been tricked by Lucifer into creating a panic with the Moon spell, which causes Satan to regain his magic and defeat Sariel. Following Sariel's defeat, he is once over again defeated and restrained, this time by Lucifer.

- An Archangel used by the Church building of Ente Isla as role of their Execution Inquisition along with Crestia Bell. He start attacks Emilia at a convenience store while in disguise. Eventually breaking off his partnership with the demons, Erone, having recognized Alas Ramus previously during his fight against Emi, returns to Earth to find his "sister". He eventually becomes a ward under the protection of Emi'south parents Lailah and Nord Justina.

Spin-off [edit]
A spin-off manga serial gear up in an alternate universe titled The Devil Is a Office-Timer! Loftier Schoolhouse! ( はたらく魔王さま!ハイスクール! , Hataraku Maō-sama! Hai Sukūru! ), written by Satoshi Wagahara and illustrated by Kurone Mishima, began serialization in the July 2012 upshot of ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Maoh magazine. Its chapters have been compiled in five tankōbon volumes, released between Jan 26, 2013 and April 24, 2015.[97] [98] Yen Press released all five volumes in N America betwixt March 24, 2015 and Oct 25, 2016.[99] [100]

A four-panel manga anthology book was published by ASCII Media Works on June 27, 2013.[109] Another spin-off manga series titled Hataraku Maō-sama no Meshi! ( はたらく魔王さまのメシ! ), illustrated past Oji Sadō, began serialization on Kadokawa Corporation'south Comic Walker website on August 28, 2019.[110]
Anime [edit]
A 13-episode anime television receiver serial adaptation of The Devil Is a Part-Timer!, produced by White Fox and directed by Naoto Hosoda,[111] aired betwixt April 4 and June 27, 2013. The anime has Masahiro Yokotani as the script supervisor and Atsushi Ikariya adapts 029'southward characters designs.[112] Funimation streamed the series every bit it aired and released it on dwelling video in summer 2014. The 2nd flavour will premiere on July fourteen, 2022, on Tokyo MX.[iv] [119] The opening theme is "With" by Minami Kuribayashi, while the catastrophe theme is "Mizukagami no Sekai" ( 水鏡の世界 , lit. "The World in the H2o'southward Reflection") past Marina Horiuchi.[120] [121] Muse Communication licensed the second flavour in Southeast Asia.[122]
